What's the Renew Gathering?

What's the Renew Gathering?

Very simply, it's an hour long gathering (prior to a meal together) in Rocky River of people who need to renew their focus and Jesus Christ and "recalibrate" their lives to his story and purposes for their lives.  For me, this kind of gathering is very helpful, because it forces me to rest, refocus, recalibrate, and be renewed in Jesus Christ.

How does this happen?  By reading the Scriptures together, praying together, singing together, taking communion together, and eating together.  We'll be hearing a short passage explained from the book of Colossians and have the opportunity together to share our own observations from the text (or simply hear what others have to say).  We'll be singing about Jesus Christ.  We'll be coming to the "table" to partake of communion (the bread and wine that represents Jesus' body and blood).*  We'll be bringing our prayers to God.  We'll be eating dinner together.

More details to follow in the post below answering what we believe will be frequently asked questions (FAQ's).

*If your faith tradition doesn't permit you to take communion outside of your priest, elder, or pastor being present, you definitely don't have to participate in this portion of the gathering.

FAQ's about the Renew Gathering

Note: The original post about the Renew Gathering can be found here.

Are kids involved?
The kids are not part of the meeting itself, but can be dropped at the Buehrle's* home for childcare starting at 4:45 pm.  Three sitters will be waiting for them.

So, if the kids are at the Buehrle's home, where's the meeting?
The meeting will be at the Linville's home (unless otherwise designated) at 5 pm.  It will be followed by dinner at the Buehrle's home at 6 pm with the kids.

When does the Renew Gathering take place?
About once a month on a Saturday evening.  This "semester" on October 1st, November 5th, and December 3rd.

Should I let you know if I'm coming?
Only if you're coming for dinner or childcare so we can get a head count.

Can I come to just dinner or just the meeting?
Sure.

Is this like a church service?
Yes.  On a small scale.

What if I'm already part of another church?
We're glad.  This gathering will be used by many among us to "supplement" what they're already doing elsewhere.  We're particularly interested in gathering with people "around the table" who we share (or will share) life together with on a regular basis.  We don't intend to meet on Sunday mornings in order to allow people to a.) go to Sunday services where they normally do, or b.) "experiment" with other ways of being the church.**

*We won't be posting addresses here.  If you got to this page, somebody probably told you about the gathering and can give you the address.  If you need more info., please leave your email in the comments.
**One example is that the Buehrles and the Linvilles are trading doing a local "Sunday Kids Church."  Then while the one couple is doing the church for kids, the other couple prepares lunch together.  Anybody interested can be a part of this (read: the "Sunday Kids Church" or the lunch together.
